The huge peaks east of Aigle and the Rhône Valley are collectively dubbed the Alpes Vaudoises, sheltering a few attractive, traditional but isolated ski villages.  The region is very specifically family-oriented and offers some of the best facilities away from the higher profile and busier resorts of the south. The friendly resort of Villars is connected by a system of lifts with its neighbouring resort of Gryon, as well as with the separate resort of Les Diablerets.  Leysin, a small resort tucked away in a valley above Aigle, completes the picture. In summer, all these villages slumber quietly in the sunshine, hosting walkers and those seeking the kind of undisturbed Alpine retreat money can’t buy.

Lift passes for the region also extend to the Les Diablerets glacier and Gstaad.  Transportation between the resorts is at best sporadic so the region does not lend itself to 'resort hopping' - more to settling in one area for your ski vacation.

The Bernese Oberland, located in the Swiss Alps,  is one of the most spectacularly beautiful regions of Switzerland. You will not tire of the combination of snow-capped mountain peaks, fresh air, and jagged peaks. The small resort of Interlaken sits between two lakes, Lake Thun and Lake Brienz and is at no distance from the triple peaks of the Jungfrau, Mönch and Eiger mountains.

To the east of Interlaken you will find the skiing and hiking center of Grindelwald.  This traditional Swiss mountain village is situated at the northern face of the Eiger. Unlike Wengen or Muerren over the ridge, Grindelwald is accessible by car and bus, and gets more tourist traffic than the Lauterbrunnen resorts.  Only a short bus trip away is the Obergletscher (Upper Glacier) with the ice grottoes. Grindelwald has a network of cable-cars leading up to numerous trails throughout the region and beyond. Skiing in the region is excellent, but also on offer are other extreme winter sports for the skier and non-skier alike.

The region of Central Switzerland, as it's name suggests, extends over the centra Swiss Alps.  The area captures an abundant scenery of beautiful lakes and stunning mountain vistas. Throughout the winter months, skiers and snowboarders migrate to the popular skiing areas of Andermatt, Engelberg, Melchsee-Frutt, Sörenberg, Klewenalp-Stockhütte and Ybrig.  These resorts offer perfect skiing conditions for beginners and families, as well as expert and ambitious akiiers and boarders. The Titlis mountain, near Engeberg, is probably the most famous ski mountain of Central Switzerland.  There is extensive cross country skiing in Einsiedel.

Apres-ski is relatively quiet, but accommodation is acceptable in well-kept holiday apartments, chalets and hotels in the region.

The Graubűnden region of Switzerland is one of the country’s premier ski vacation destinations.  Located on the eastern side of the renowned Swiss Alps, it has some of the world’s most elite resorts – such as St. Moritz and Davos.  It is also one of the country’s top tourist destinations by volume.

The area spans a massive 7,000 km and offers over 2,000 km of skiing.  There is also some stunning scenery in the Swiss National Park and the Grison Alps. 

In the Northern Alps, between Lake Geneva and Mont Blanc, the France-Switzerland Portes du Soleil area links 12 resorts. Geneva lies on the doorstep of this enormous snowsport region, which provides a unique experience for skiers and snowboarders: 650km of connected pistes and trails. 2 countries, 12 resorts, 3 valleys, 266 pistes, 195 ski lifts, 10 snowparks ... all available on one ski pass! The Portes du Soleil ski area has a unique, personal, natural environment, where the ski-lifts are barely visible.

Regardless of the resort you stay in, high-mileage piste-bashing is synonymous with the Portes du Soleil region.  Added to it's great family image and convenient accessibility, the region offers something for everyone.  The resorts are set amid craggy peaks with sensational views and the kind of terrain that begs to be explored. For every marked piste there is another option - whether a gladed forest run or wide open powder fields.

The region of Valais lies in the southwest of Switzerland and is probably best known for the mighty Matterhorn and the ski resorts of Zermatt and Verbier. Valais boasts 121 ski resorts in total, with skiing at over 3000 metres altitude.  Consequently, snow fall records are high and ideal ski conditions are enjoyed throughout of the winter season.  Unlimited skiing is available across the border into Italy.

Skiers of all levels can enjoy the 313 kilometres of pistes of the Matterhorn ski paradise, with accessible altitudes of 3000 metres or 3800 metres on the glacier.  Between June and November, the highest cableway in Europe transports visitors up past giant crevasses to the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise and into a mountain landscape of glaciers and permanent snow. This is Europe’s largest summer snow sports area with more than 20 kilometres of slopes.  The Four Valleys features the world-renowned resort of Verbier – the area offers something for all level of skiers with 410 kilometres of slopes linked by 94 lifts. The highest point is the summit of the Mont Fort glacier, at 3330 metres, which offers ideal skiing conditions from the beginning to the end of the season.
